Skunk Control and Removal

Skunks are pasts because of their nasty odor and digging capabilities. And the odor is something you never want your pet to encounter first hand. It lingers and takes a considerable effort to remove the smell from your pet and get it out of your house. The odor can linger for weeks, even months.

Here is a list of the “Top 10” skunk complaints we receive:

  • Skunk is living under porch or deck
  • A strong odor of skunk nearby
  • One of your pets get sprayed
  • Skunks have dug a hole between neighbors’ fence and our yard
  • Spotted them at Sundown running and playing in the yard
  • In your garden having their way
  • Roaming through hedges looking for food
  • Infesting your stately trees
  • Noises in your attic
  • Late evening and early morning spotting’s

The fastest and easiest solution is to have them trapped and removed.

The best and most efficient solution is to catch the skunks in live cages. But if you did this as a DYI, what would you do then. First off, be careful. On a side note, one of the team members got sprayed three times in one day even though the skunks were in a full prof cage. Wonder what his wife thought? So, once the shock of that wore off, the skunks were relocated about 10 miles away in a natural habitat more suitable to their lifestyle and certainly more appropriate for the customer. Some laws might prohibit a homeowner from trapping and removing skunks, so please do your homework before taking action.

Skunks can be a nuisance:

It should be pretty obvious what the main issue is: Stink, Smell, and Odor all being the same; it is just a smelly mess. Skunks love to live where you live. Choosing who has to go very easy. They like houses, porches, decks, sheds, and anything that provides shelter.

Sometimes skunks mark their domain, but spraying while skunks peer-say might not impose a big problem on humans that is certainly different when it comes to your pets. Because of skunks like digging, just imagine what they could dig up in your yard?

Vegetable gardens, planted flowers, lawns, and a whole lot more.

Skunk Pro Tip:

Want a fast, easy, and inexpensive way to get rid of the “skunk” odor both in your house and on your pets? First things first, tomato juice and bath for your pet don’t work. Don’t waste your time. The fastest and easiest way to remove the odor either on a pet or person is to do the following.

Mix hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap (like Palmolive) and hen shampoo the pet (dogs) or yourself a quick shampoo and then rinse with warm water. Hey, it works.

Skunk diseases:

The most frequent disease a skunk can carry will be rabies. According to a couple of studies, it seems as though a skunk doesn’t carry any other diseases that a human might catch.

So, the big question is, “how do I remove skunks from my attic or property?”

The easiest way to catch a skunk is in a skunk trap. They can be expensive to purchase, but the real problem happens when you figure out how and where to let the skunk go. While professional traps do have a flapper that typically prevents the skunk from spraying, it can be tricky opening the cage and letting them roam freely.

The best suggestion is, of course, to let the professionals like Thomas Wildlife perform the catch and release for you.
